Situated in downtown Anchorage, the Alaska Native Arts Foundation is an established gallery and retail space carrying contemporary, original Alaska Native art by renowned and up-and-coming artists from around the state. Passersby are piqued by curiosity. The repetitive protruding display panels in the windows and recessed vertical display cases conceal the exquisite contents. A simple design becomes a sculptural yet neutral backdrop allowing the artwork to color the gallery. The display shelves in the retail space frame and isolate selections of art.
The rear gallery space maximizes the area with an array of windows that encases the East wall and the remaining walls create straightforward visual space for monthly First Friday exhibits. The overall space encourages customers to focus on the artwork. Alaska Native Arts Foundation provides an outlet for artists to showcase their creative works while periodically altering the ambience and dynamics of the space. This space is aesthetically exciting, innovative and yet functional.
The gallery is free and open to the public year round.
